Is everyone else out there as disillusioned by the entire field of POTUS candidates as I am? Watching these people over the last several months has left me more discouraged than ever about the future of our nation and our way of life.
As disgusted as I am by the likes of Clinton, Edwards, Biden, Paul and Huckabee, I find that there isn't a single candidate that, in my opinion, is truly fit to lead this nation. With all the lying, flip-flopping, negative attacks, drug use, inexperience, inability/refusal to answer tough questions, scandals and ill-advised positions on critical issues, I am forced to come to the conclusion that we are royally and thoroughly screwed. It almost seems that we are dealing with children, at times.
Do you think that we could roll them all into one big ball and actually come up with a single, decent candidate? Naw, me neither.
I think that we should evaluate these people the same way that we choose police officers: make them submit to a lengthy, in-depth psychological evaluation, long-term drug screening, complete background check and physical. I think we'd knock out most them right there. Assuming, of course, that any of them actually dared go through the process. Don't we, as a nation, have a right to know just about every detail of someone's character and personal history if they want to run this country?
Come to think of it, let's hold Congress to the same standard. Now there's a concept.
It seems to me that choosing a president has become a matter of picking the one person that would do the least amount of damage to this nation, rather than finding someone who can actually do the damned job.
Where is the candidate of character? The one with morals and ethics and a sense of honor? The one with the courage to stand his/her ground and do the right thing, at all cost? Haven't these people ever heard of integrity? They can't all just be after the money and power, can they?
It scares me that some Americans will actually cast their vote because a particular candidate is black, or a woman, or of a specific religion or party, or based on what pathetic celebrity is backing them, rather than because they are truly the best candidate for the job. It troubles me that people cannot seem to see through the complete facade that is Hillary Clinton or the joke that is Mike Huckabee. And the fact that we would actually allow people like Alan Keyes, Joe Biden, Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich and Chris Dodd to walk around pretending like they have even the slightest chance at winning this esteemed office amazes me.
So, which candidate is the lesser evil? Which has lied the least, is the least biased, is the least extreme, has cheated the least and hasn't actually been bought by the fringes of their party or by big business or the lying media? Yes, I know, it's pretty close...
Maybe, come election day, I'll just close my eyes and do the pin-the-tail-on-the-candidate thing and hope for the best. Because that's all any of us are really doing, anyway.
I agree completely! I think for me the most frustrating thing~~I have no clue were they stand on any of the issues that are of concern to me. The process by which we elect this nations leaders is failing us! To qoute Iacocca~~ "Where Have All The Leaders Gone?"

Yes, it's pretty depressing.

I agree, JB, although the idea of a McCain/Lieberman ticket does sound interesting...
