So Pelosi will go to Syria and meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad despite objections from the White House. She will also take along Keith Ellison, the first Muslim member of Congress.
"This is a county that is a state sponsor of terror, one that is trying to disrupt the Senora government in Lebanon and one that is allowing foreign fighters to flow into Iraq from its borders," Perino said.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad "probably really wants people to come, and have a photo opportunity, and have tea with him, and have discussions about where they're coming from. But we just think it's a really bad idea," Perino said.
It's not enough that Pelosi and her ilk refuse to support our troops in time of war, but now they are actively meeting with our enemies. Syria has long been listed as a state sponsor of terrorism, and Pelosi will be the most senior member of Congress to visit there. You might remember that other Democrats, including Sen. Bill Nelson and John Kerry visited recently, also against the wishes of the White House.
So this is what it's come to.
The Democrats will do anything to embarrass and defy this administration without a care for the message it sends to our enemies around the world or how it affects our troops serving in harm's way. They have effectively sold out our military and this nation in the hopes of gaining the White House in '08.
Hell, the House even refused to condemn the recent Iranian kidnappings of British troops. I guess that their week-long vacation was more important.
"I am very disappointed that the speaker chose not to act," said Rep. Charles Dent, R-Pa.
"I believe it's important for us as Americans to show our solidarity with the Britons," he added in a phone interview Friday. "The British are our closest allies, and I think we have to stand next to them in a moment like this."
I guess Pelosi and her little band didn't want to offend Syria, and by extension, their puppeteers in Iran, before their chummy little tea session coming up. So much for supporting our allies.
This has gone far beyond the differences of two opposing political parties. This is, and has long been, personal. This is about deep-seated hatred for Bush, Cheney, their administration and Republicans, in general. And it's about Democrats who will do and say anything to wrest control from the GOP in the next election, no matter what it costs this nation.
Pelosi and her San Francisco values and after one thing: power. Remember when she became Speaker of the House?
- "In more than 200 years of history, there was an established pecking order -- and I cut in line."
- "I am the most powerful woman in America!"
- "All right, let's hear it for the power," she screamed as the jubilant applause continued.
Now that sounds like a rational, intelligent person who wants what's best for this country, doesn't it?
As Debbie points out, Americans Are Not Scared Enough. As a people, we fail to recognize the seriousness of the threat that is before us. Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Qaeda and several other terrorist groups and states have active cells in this country. We know who and where a few of them are, but they are largely unknown to us in number and intent. Unfortunately, most experts believe that we will be hearing from them sooner, rather than later. And the longer we wait to confront and stop these people, the bloodier it will be...for all of us.
We are at war with these people.
But only one side seems to know it.
Thanks for making it worse, Nancy.

Just what is the difference between Pelosi's "violation" and that of Representatives Frank Wolf (Republican, Virginia), Joe Pitts (Republican, Pennsylvania) and Robert Aderholt (Republican, Alabama)?

"The White House questioned the point of Pelosi's trip and her apparent intention to meet with Syrian President Bashar Assad.
"As you know, we discourage members of Congress to make such visits to Syria,"link text Perino said. "I don't know what she's trying to accomplish."
"I know that Assad probably really wants people to come and have a photo opportunity and have tea with him, and have discussions about where they're coming from, but we do think that's a really bad idea," she said."

What was the point of the trip of Congressmen Wolf, Pitts and Aderholt?

I think the Republicans are going for pretty much the same reason: embarrass the president, personal and political gain, free publicity and photo op, etc. etc. The fact remains that we have no diplomatic relations with Syria presently and the White House is against the trip. Nothing more need be said.

Thank you. Yours is a rational answer. No one should be going there. Mine was a question actually to those who claim that Pelosi is different because she is Speak of the House. 'Cause if the Republicans hadn't lost the House, Wolf would have been the Chairman of the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee (Appropriations), which has oversight of the State Department and other international programs and organizations

Congress - both parties - are selling out this country for personal power. And, they are selling out our military, as well. Then, we have an electorate that choses sound bites or the Daily Show as news. I am so disgusted at what is happening in this country. But, we get the government we elect. I'm going to miss America.

Are you going somewhere? I seriously doubt that the country is leaving.

"Any working person that votes Republican is like a chicken voting for for Col. Sanders."
LOL thanks for the blog, its really amusing to watch how utterly duped into a false sense of security and reality people of this country really are. LoL keep voting GOP, its fun to watch you continue to screw yourselves over and over and over, like lemmings that never learn.

That's utterly brilliant, friend. You should get your own blog with material like that. Thanks for commenting.
