I'm fed up with our Government's steadfast refusal to address the illegal immigration problem in this country.
In Los Angeles today, hundreds of 'supporters' gathered at the Los Angeles Sports Arena to demand an end to immigration raids by the Government. One admitted illegal alien summed it up this way:
"The government has to listen to us," said Raymundo Aguilar, 40, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. "We aren't just a few, we are millions."
Notice the Times' characterization: 'undocumented immigrant' rather than 'illegal alien'. Just a subtle way of garnering sympathy for people who are committing a felony by just being in this country illegally. But L.A. is a 'sanctuary city' and police there can't make felony arrests for that violation alone, or even question a suspects immigration status. No wonder violent crime and the gang problem is L.A. is completely under control.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon recently all but admitted to having family in the U.S. illegally.
Calderon, 44, a Harvard-educated economist and pro-business conservative, was asked about his own relatives in the United States - and whether they were there legally.
Although he did not answer the second part of the question directly, Calderon said: "Yes, I do have family in the United States, and what I can tell you is that these are people who work and respect that country. They pay their taxes to the government. ... These are people who have children, who want these children to be educated with respect for the land where they live and with respect for Mexico."
He also said that they work with "vegetables" and that he does not know their immigration status. You do the math.
Recently released documents show that many illegals aren't prosecuted until their fifth or sixth arrest.
The prosecution guidelines have been a source of frustration for years among the ranks of U.S. Border Patrol agents, said T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council. Smugglers can figure out the criteria by trial and error, he said, and can exploit it to avoid prosecution.
"It's devastating on morale," Bonner said. "Our agents are risking their lives out there, and then they're told, 'Sorry, that doesn't meet the criteria.' "
Typical. Ask these brave men and women to risk their lives to do a job that their own government and lawmakers won't support.
President Bush has sold us out on this issue. He recently promised President Calderon that he would keep the borders open.
"In the debate on migration, I remind my fellow citizens that family values do not stop at the Rio Grande River, that there are decent, hardworking honorable citizens of Mexico who want to make a living for their families," Bush said as he stood beside Calderon. "And so, Mr. President, my pledge to you and your government — but, more importantly, the people of Mexico — is I will work as hard as I possibly can to pass comprehensive immigration reform."
WTF??? The Mexican people are more important to him than the American people? What happened to his oath to protect this country and her people against all enemies, be they foreign or domestic?
And 'comprehensive immigration reform' means one thing to our President and Congress: amnesty. Again. And the border will still be open.
It's time to stop the bleeding.
Close the borders first. After we have stopped the flood of illegals, we can figure out what we're going to do with the ones already here. And amnesty isn't one of the choices. A path to citizenship? Absolutely. After you leave and apply for entry, wait your turn, agree to obey our laws, learn to speak English and pay a fine if you have been residing here illegally all along. Then:
- heavy fines for employers who hire illegals
- eviction of all criminal aliens, whether they have committed a new crime or not
- zero tolerance enforcement of all new immigration policies
- more support for the Border Patrol and border control technology
No amnesty. No rewards for criminals and lawbreakers. Not again.
Protest that.
