Elvira Arellano Deported. Yes, Again. UPDATED She's Not Doing Well in the Polls
Well, she's been all over the news lately.
Briefly, she has been deported in the past for being an illegal alien but returned illegally a second time. She was detained again, not only for being here illegally but using a false, presumably stolen, social security number. However, this time, she decided to have a son here, who is now, sadly, a U.S. citizen because our pathetic laws encourage such a practice.
Arellano was avoiding a deportation order issued in 1997 by a Federal Judge, and another order to report to DoHS for deportation in August, 2006, and had been hiding out at Adalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago for the past year.
Someone then decided to use her as a pawn for the Left-wing open borders crowd and shipped her off to a protest in Los Angeles, where she was promptly arrested and deported.
And the Left goes nuts.
The sad part is that her son apparently has ADD and she chose - chose, mind you - to leave him behind at the church in Chicago, where he remains after her deportation. Just part of the plan, I'm sure. Leave the kid behind and play on the sympathies of the American people.
Typical open borders crowd strategy. Play the sympathy angle, get people to feel so that they forget about common sense things like right and wrong, or open borders, or identity theft, or how much illegal aliens cost us every year. No, it's all about this (criminal) poor woman who has been (willingly) separated from her son. Boo-freaking-hoo.
It seems to me that the good folks at ICE and DHS finally got one right. This woman is a repeat offender, (using false/forged documents and repeatedly entering illegally) blasting our nation in the media, and is now being made the poster child for all the "poor, law-abiding illegals" who "just want a better life," U.S. laws be damned. Hmmm, if you want a better life, give up fraud, illegal entry and refusing to follow court orders. It's that easy.
Spare me your crap about how the U.S. Government is splitting up families. Murderers, rapists and gang members have children, too: should we stop imprisoning them for their crimes so that we don't "split up" their families? No. What DHS should have done was charge her with fraud and then pay her room and board for a few years. She made the choice to break our laws, she decided to leave her kid behind for a photo op, she is responsible.
And here's another little item about Miss Arellano: she actually worked at Chicago's O'Hare airport, cleaning planes. Makes you all warm and fuzzy knowing how strict security is there, doesn't it? Do you think that she told the truth on her job application there?
But if you feel bad for this woman, take heart: she'll be back in this country again tomorrow, with another stolen identity, breaking our laws and lamenting our hatred of Mexico once more. If you hurry, you might catch a glimpse of her passing through our wide-open borders.

***UPDATED***: Well, it seems that the open-borders media darling isn't faring well in local polls. According to this Chicago Tribune poll, with an estimated 25,000 people voting, more than 90% think that Arellano should have been arrested for breaking immigration laws. More than 75% said that her son should not factor in the equation; 85% said that her case will not garner more sympathy for illegals and more than 80% said that churches should not be allowed to provide sanctuary for lawbreakers.
Hear that Congress?
