All charges against Lance Corporal Justin Sharratt, accused of murdering three Iraqi civilians in Haditha, Iraq, in 2005, were dropped today by Lieutenant General James Mattis, CO of the 1st MEF at Camp Pendleton, California.
"An independent Article 32 investigating officer has considered all the facts and determined that the evidence does not support a referral to court-martial for Lance Corporal Sharratt," Mattis wrote.
"Based on my review of all the evidence in this case and considering the recommendation of the Article 32 officer, I have dismissed the charges."
Sharratt was accused of shooting three Iraqi men execution-style in what prosecutors alleged was part of a rampage that left 24 civilians dead following the death of a Marine in a roadside bomb in November 2005.
Sharratt said the men were shot at close quarters as Marines cleared a house where insurgents were believed to be operating.
In a statement recommending the charges be dropped released last month, investigator Lieutenant Colonel Paul Ware said the prosecution charges were "unsupported by the independent evidence."
"To believe the government version of facts is to disregard clear and convincing evidence to the contrary," Ware added.
The Haditha killings are the most serious allegations of war crimes against US soldiers in Iraq.
Now that that little detail has been resolved, it's time to go after liar traitor Congressman John Murtha (D) of Pennsylvania and censure the big-mouthed SOB.
You remember Murtha, right? The same guy that labeled these men "murderers" who "killed in cold blood" even though there was evidence to the contrary at the time? The same guy that convicted these men in the MSM, in the midst of a war, of the most heinous act a combat soldier can commit, without any evidence whatsoever?
What do you say now, Congressman?
And how about you, Nancy "the most ethical Congress is history" Pelosi? Do you have the guts to do the right thing here?
I didn't think so.

***UPDATED***: It seems that Hot Air wanted to see if Congressman Murtha had a prepared statement now that three of the Marines that he accused of killing "innocent civilians in cold blood" in a "fashion reminiscent of Ghengis Khan" have been cleared of all charges. His secretary hung up on them.
It's a good thing they didn't ask about pork.
Apparently his staff is as cowardly as he is.
