New Immigration Policy Analysis

Tax-paying Americans do not want to be told that international gang members are going to be amnestied. They don't want to be told that, as long as you are illegal you don't have to pay your back taxes. And they don't want to be told that their desire to enforce the law means that they're bigots.
I've long lost what little respect I had for 'some people think that anything less than capitol punishment is amnesty' DoHS Secretary Michael Chertoff. He later added this nugget:
I understand that some people think it's not tough enough. Maybe they want people thrown in jail for 10 years or they want people executed.
It amazes me that the guy who is in charge of the safety of this nation can't comprehend that Americans want him to enforce our existing laws before adding new ones that he will also ignore. Do your job, sir, and spare us the politics.

It doesn't look like this bill will coast through after all. Amendments are already being added and there is some very outspoken opposition.
Maybe it's just me but shouldn't we stop more from coming here before we worry about what to do with the illegals already here?
