Oopsie, it seems that three out of four people aren't buying the Senate Illegal Immigration bullshit Bill. (H/t to Hot Air.)
So President Bush recently attacked opponents of the bill:
“If you want to scare the American people, what you say is the bill’s an amnesty bill,” Mr. Bush said this afternoon at a training center for border enforcement agents located in this town in Georgia’s southeastern corner. “That’s empty political rhetoric, trying to frighten our citizens.”
Unbelievable.
I've backed the president through his incompetent handling of the Iraq War and still stand by that decision. Many, many mistakes were made, but I still believe that it was the right thing to do. The war has reached this sad state not through the poor performance of our troops, but rather with the political bumblings and poor planning of this administration. But still I supported him and his efforts.
But he has completely lost my trust on this one.
I have no desire to scare the American people, Mr. President. If I did, I would say this:
- The POTUS and DoHS refuse to do what is necessary to close our borders and protect our citizens
- The POTUS and DoHS refuse to enforce U.S. laws that are already on the books
- The POTUS and Congress don't care what the average American thinks about the illegal immigration problem
- The POTUS and Congress are more interested in appeasing illegal immigrants and big business than they are with protecting the interests and desires of American citizens who are here legally
- The POTUS is more interested in promoting his own legacy, in the wake of his Iraq War failures, than he is with doing what is best for the future of this nation
How's that for a start? Scary enough?
This bill is a joke and will only make the problem worse. They are trying to stuff it down our throats in record time so that we won't have an opportunity to debate it and see how bad it really is.
If you want to pass a bill, Mr. President, start here:
- close our borders immediately
- keep more illegals from getting here
- enforce our existing laws and deport all criminal aliens
- make it illegal to harbor or hire illegal aliens and enforce that law, too
Then, and only then, can we develop a new, workable immigration policy.
I believe that we need a guest worker program.
I believe that there should be a "path to citizenship" for aliens who come here legally, learn to speak English, obey our laws and work hard for the privilege (just like the rest of us).
I believe that all aliens, of any race, should be treated equally, fairly and humanely.
But I don't think that those things are more important than the safety and security of this nation and her people.
Wake up, America, and stop this bill.

Amen! Ditto everything you said. I've had company here at home since Saturday, been away from the news, and I just sat down to the computer and turned on Fox News with Britt Hume. As I read your article here, I'm listening to Laura Ingram and Rush. I am done with Bush. Finished.
He has been part of the problem with illegal immigration, and now he tries to make us look like the bad guy? This was a big mistake on his part.
Fred Thompson is getting closer to running for President and I say not a minute too soon.
Thanks for the link as always.

This is one of your best blogs. Now we can only hope that POTUS and congress will actually listen to the American public!

Copper,
I've had it with that idiot.
I've supported him up til now (despite his poor handling of soooo many things) but no more.
When he accuses me of doing what's wrong for the country, that's where I draw the line.
F W!

I consider myself a staunch conservative but have no trust at all in the President to keep our borders secure. If he says this bill is anything other than amnesty he is lying.

I have to second that. The way he is defending this bill makes it obvious that he has given up on doing the right thing for this country, and is now thinking only about his legacy. Sad but true.

More fallout if it passes: A class action suit for a blue or green card from all of those who were turned down for tourist, student, fiance, work or marriage visa at the US embassy in their home country. If those who did it illegally got a visa, then those who went through the proper channels and were turned down will now have legal precedent on their side.
