al-Qaeda leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri captured?
Bill Roggio has some of the hottest news coming from Iraq in long time.
Iraqi and Coalition forces may have gotten a lucky break in the hunt for the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq. CNN is reporting, based on a source in the Iraqi Interior Ministry, that Abu Ayyub al-Masri, the successor to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has been wounded in a firefight on a road somewhere between Fallujah and Samarra. Al-Masri and his security detail are said to have been entering the city of Balad. Al-Masri's aide is identified as Abu Abdullah al-Majamiai. A military intelligence source has informed us al-Majamiai may be the head of al-Masri's security detail, but this has not been confirmed.
Let's just hope his intel is spot-on, as usual.
Great news, eh Democrats?
UPDATED: Hot Air says maybe not. Knew it was too good to be true. Let's wait for details, however.

UPDATED: From CNN:
The U.S. military on Friday cast doubt on a report from the Iraqi government that al Qaeda in Iraq chief Abu Ayyub al-Masri was wounded in clashes with police.
A senior U.S. official, who requested anonymity, told CNN that the U.S. military believes reports about the alleged incident Thursday are false.
Despite the doubts, Iraq's Interior Ministry stood by its initial report that police wounded al-Masri -- who is the successor to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, said ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Abdul Karim Khalaf.
Well, we may have missed him this time, but I'd bet he's hiding in a very deep hole right now. Looks like we need to be even more skeptical of Iraq's IM after action reports.
