Welcome To Northern Mexico

You really have to feel for the great folks at the Border Patrol. Not only are they terribly overworked and woefully understaffed - while doing one of the most important jobs in the country - but their job is becoming ever more dangerous. According to the BP, there have already been more assaults on their agents this year than all of last year.

And then there's this incident from yesterday, in which BP agents killed a man who attacked them without provocation. Incredibly, the agents were trying to save a man from drowning when several illegal aliens began throwing rocks at them. One of the suspects was shot after a BP agent was struck in the head. The suspect later died at the hospital. Shame, that.

And here's Mexico's take on the incident, from the Mexican Consul in Yuma, Miguel Escobar: "We are concerned about acts of violence affecting Mexican nationals, and we will keep close watch in regard to the development of this particular case.”

Huh. What about the acts of violence against our Border Patrol agents? Where is the condemnation of the men who were trying to enter the U.S. illegally, and then attacked these agents for no reason? Obviously none of that matters, as long as our BP folks don't hurt anyone's feelings.

And then there's this story from Michelle Malkin about the illegal immigration protest in Maywood, California, last weekend (an incident that has gotten little press coverage....surprise!). If that doesn't piss you off, you should make a trip to Southern California sometime, and see for yourself how bad the situation really is.

Here's a more sympathetic view from the Los Angeles Times. Notice that the poor woman who is being thrown out of the country for being here illegally was convicted of spousal abuse, a felony in California. In addition to the entering illegally felony.

It seems that we're stuck in this pre-GWoT mentality concerning illegal immigration. There have been reports that al Qaeda operatives are learning Spanish and entering the country with the help of Mexican Coyotes. And reports that Iran has smuggled terrorists into the U.S. to strike us if we move preemptively against them. Hundreds, if not thousands, of MS13 gang members have entered the U.S. illegally. And smuggling into the U.S. has been out of control for years: people, drugs, weapons and who knows what else.

Still our government does nothing!

Here's a great excerpt from the book State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion and Conquest of America, posted at Right Truth:

On November 28, 2005, President Bush, speaking in Tucson, conceded that in five years 4.5 million aliens had been caught attempting to break into the United States. Among that 4.5 million, Bush admitted, were "more than 350,000 with criminal records." One in every twelve illegal aliens the U.S. Border Patrol had apprehended was a criminal.

That is 70,000 felons apprehended each year, 200 felons every single day for five years, trying to break into our country to rob, rape, and murder Americans. Of the millions who succeeded on Bush’s watch, how many came for just such purposes? How many Americans have been robbed, assaulted, or murdered because the President failed in his duty to defend the borders of the United States?

Nearly 8 million foreigners did enter during those five years, 3.7 million of them illegally. If one in twelve was a criminal, 300,000 felons slipped in during Bush’s tenure. This is an historic dereliction of presidential duty.

There are today 36 million foreign-born in the United States, almost three times as many people as the 13.5 million hear at the peak of the Great Wave in 1910. And it is among these tens of millions of foreign-born that illegal aliens find sanctuary. As James Edwards of the Hudson Institute writes, legal and illegal immigration are two sides of the same coin. If we fail to control the one, we cannot control the other. As a rule, he notes, when legal immigration rises, illegal immigration soars.

Right in one.

Read this sobering story from The Christian Science Monitor, but make sure you're sitting down first. It seems that the Senate's recent bill for comprehensive immigration reform will cost $127 billion dollars over the next 10 years, according to the CBO. And, because of a current glitch in tax laws, federal revenues will drop some $80 billion dollars during the same time frame.

Guess who pays for all of that? Quoting CSM again:

"We are now just beginning to see a glimpse of the staggering burden on American taxpayers the Reid-Kennedy immigration legislation contains," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner, who convened a field hearing at the State House in Concord, N.H., Thursday on the costs of the Senate bill.

And get this:

On the issue of border security - a feature in both bills - there is little disagreement. The CBO estimates that the cost of hardening US borders in the Senate bill is $78.3 billion over 10 years, or about 62 percent of the bill's total cost.

The fireworks involve new entitlement spending in the Senate version. The CBO sets the price tag for services for some 16 million new citizens and guest workers at $48.4 billion through fiscal year 2016. That includes $24.5 billion for earned income and child tax credits, $11.7 billion for Medicaid, $5.2 billion for Social Security, $3.7 billion for Medicare, and $2.4 billion for food stamps.

$2.4 billion dollars for food stamps??? I ain't got no stinking food stamps! And that's only ten years worth, folks. Remind me how many illegal aliens are paying taxes and helping to alleviate these burdens to our citizens? I don't know either, but I know it's not the 16 million of them mentioned above.
