The BBC has this report on today's counter-terrorist activity in Great Britain. Some security experts are saying that a terrorist cell in England was planning to detonate liquid explosives on as many as ten airborne aircraft, and that the plan was in the last stages of preparation. It appears that the terrorists had been planning to hijack aircraft bound for the U.S. (In case you wondering about liquid explosives, read this article).
It seems that the SAS and British Intelligence have most of the suspected terrorists in custody, and that most, if not all of them, were British-born, some with ties to Pakistan. Raids and searches are going on all over Britain, and at least 21 people have been arrested.
John Reid, the British Home Secretary, said that these attacks would have been catastrophic. "The loss of life to innocent civilians would have been on an unprecedented scale," he told BBC reporters.
President Bush said the terrorist plot is "stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom."
And yes, there are new restrictions that you need to know about if you are flying. No liquids, gels, creams or pastes will be allowed into the airport, with but a few exceptions. See a complete list of restrictions here.

These people aren't going away, folks. They want to kill ALL of us; Americans, Brits, Israeli's, all of us. They aren't going away and they won't give up. Just look at Lebanon if you have any doubts.
Everyone is pointing to the polls, saying that America is against the war in Iraq. Hell, I'm against it, too. I'm against anything that puts our troops, the best and bravest of all of us, in harm's way. But I also believe it's necessary. We have to kill these people before they get here to kill us. And if we have to kill them in Iraq, so be it. Or Lebanon. Or Iran. And you're on the list, too, Syria.
I can't believe how many seemingly normal, intelligent people, cannot grasp this simple reality. Pick up a newspaper. Read a book. Do your homework. Listen to the experts and the people prosecuting the GWoT.
We're in it to win it. There is no second place!

***UPDATES*** At least 24 have now been arrested, and British officials are "urgently seeking" at least ten more. It looks like some of the scumbags people have been arrested in Pakistan. Apparently, MI-5 has been watching this one for awhile, but only recently learned that the terrorists were planning on using liquid explosives. Smeels like al Qaeda, doesn't it?
